Email address is the key used to store all your data in BrainBOK. Your BrainBOK subscription is also based on your email address. We do 'not' allow users to change their email address.

However, in special circumstances (such as when a user cannot access his or her email account at all), we do assist active paid subscribers to transfer their subscription to a new email address as per the following terms and conditions:

None of the data such as Exam History, Flashcard Bookmarks, Quiz Scores, or Saved Sessions, would be migrated over from the old email account to the new email account. In other words, the new email account would work as a fresh account in BrainBOK, with no previous data or history.
Different users use BrainBOK in different ways, and it's hard to give a specific 'prescription' for using it. However, we frequently get requests for providing tips on the best way to use BrainBOK. So, here's a small attempt in that direction.

First, we hope that you are familiar with the basic features of BrainBOK, and especially the ITTO Explorer. If not, please take a look at the information posted on our 'Features' pages. It will give you some ideas to get started.

ITTO Explorer

The ITTO Explorer is designed to be as intuitive as possible. It helps you get your head around the PMBOK Guide in a simple and efficient manner, all on a single screen. You can use it in multiple ways. Following are some of the use cases. This list is only suggestive, and not exhaustive. There can be several other ways to use the tool.
  1. During the initial phase of your preparation, you can use the ITTO Explorer to get an overview (360 deg view) of all the PMBOK Guide processes and ITTOs. Usually this is the most daunting task for the PMP and CAPM aspirants.
  2. Use it to 'understand' each ITTO and 'why' an ITTO is an ITTO of a given process. You could use the tool to drill down into individual processes or ITTOs. For example, you can get a list of all the ITTOs of a particular process, or you can get a list of all the processes where a particular ITTO is used. You can also use the tool to see how the processes interact with each other in terms of 'data flow' (what data flows from one process to another).
  3. Have the ITTO Explorer open while you are studying the PMBOK Guide (or other study guides or training material) to quickly refer to PMBOK processes or ITTOs, instead of scrolling back and forth on the PMBOK Guide. Basically, have it opened whenever you are studying for the exam. This can be a big time-saver.
  4. Use it before the exam for a final revision of the PMBOK Guide.

Spend about 15 minutes each day to test your knowledge using ITTO, Process, Data Flow, and Glossary Quizzes. Keep an eye on your performance using the graphical performance reports. Focus more on low scoring Domains / Knowledge Areas.

Spend about 15 minutes each day to jog your memory. We suggest doing this when you start your preparation every day. You can do Quizzes and Flashcards on alternate days if you are time-constrained. Use the Bookmark feature to mark the cards that you think are important or the ones that you would like to review later. And don't forget to review the 'top-rated' cards of other users.

Full-length PMP / CAPM Exam

We recommend that you take the full-length exam about a week or 10 days before the real exam. It will help you test your exam-readiness. Based on the data that we have collected in the past, folks who scored 50-55% in their 'first attempt' on our exam, passed the real exam too. However, this is just a guideline and not a guarantee. A score below 45% (on your first attempt) is a likely to be a warning sign.

Formula Exam

You can take the Formula Challenge exam after you are reasonably prepared. This exam is very hard, and more than 90% of the people fail it on their first attempt. So don't get discouraged if you don't score well on this exam. Review the answers thoroughly, and use this exam more as a study resource than an exam.

Hope this information helps you make the best use of BrainBOK. Feel free to share your own tips with us. We will be glad to post them on our forum.

Good luck from the BrainBOK Team!

Subscriptions and Payment

We provide 3 payment options:

  1. Credit cards
  2. PayPal
  3. Apple Pay
When your Premium membership expires, your account type reverts back to Basic account. All your data, such as quiz performance data (used in reports), flashcard bookmarks, exam history, etc. will still be retained in our database, even though you may not be able to access some of that data. For example, if you have bookmarked a flashcard, which is accessible only to Premium members, you will not be able to access it after your Premium membership expires. However, if you happen to upgrade your membership again, you will be able to access all your data again.
Membership activation is handled automatically and instantly by our system. Your account gets upgraded to Premium almost instantly after you get a successful payment confirmation email from our payment gateway (PayPal or Stripe). In most cases, no manual intervention is required. You need to sign out of BrainBOK and sign back in to access the Premium features.
Here are the steps to purchase a subscription:

  1. Go the Plans page.
  2. Sign in with your email or a social (Google, Facebook, Microsoft/Hotmail) account.
  3. On the Plans page, click on the Add to Cart button for the plan that you are interested in.
  4. Make the payment securely with your Credit Card, PayPal account, or Apple Pay.
  5. Go back to BrainBOK, sign out and sign in again to start using the Premium features.
If you have purchased a BrainBOK subscription and would like to renew or extend the same subscription, you can choose to renew or extend your subscription any time simply by purchasing the same package again as you did the first time, but at a discounted price. There are 2 possible scenarios:

  1. Your current subscription has already expired (renew): Let's say today is Jan 15, 2016 and your current subscription expired on Dec 31, 2015. In this case, if you renew your subscription today, your new subscription will start from today, i.e. Jan 15, 2016.
  2. Your current subscription is still valid (extend): Let's say today is Jan 15, 2016, and your current subscription is valid until Jan 31, 2016. In this case, if you renew your subscription today, your new subscription will start from the end date of your current subscription, i.e. Jan 31, 2016.
As you can see, our system is designed to be fair and allows you to renew or extend your subscription any time, in a hassle free manner.
We use PayPal and Stripe gateways for all payment related matters. The payment receipt email that you receive from PayPal or Stripe is your official receipt for your BrainBOK subscription purchase. We do not provide any separate receipt.

Customers who need to have their contact details and tax reference numbers (VAT etc.) on the receipt can write to us and request a more formal receipt.

ITTO Explorer

ITTO Secrets are the detailed descriptions of each ITTO. ITTO Secrets explain exactly why an ITTO is an ITTO of a process. The PMBOK® Guide is not always good at explaining the why's of ITTO. That's where the ITTO Secrets feature comes in handy. It bring the entire PMBOK® Guide, plus a lot more, at your fingertips.
Data Flow maps the process interactions between the project management processes. It shows the processes that provide inputs (providers), or receive outputs (receivers) from the selected process. It also shows exactly what inputs flow in from the provider processes and what outputs flow to the receiver processes.
It is because you are using the free basic account, which provides limited access to the ITTO Explorer. Please upgrade to Premium account for full access.

We recommend taking Mastering PMBOK Exam 1 and 2 to assess your knowledge of the PMBOK® Guide first. Next, take PMP / CAPM Practice Exam 1, 2 and 3 in any order as all three exams are equally balanced. Finally, take the PMP / CAPM Formula Challenge Exam, which, true to its name, is the most challenging of all!
As Project Management Institute (PMI®) does not reveal the passing score on PMP® and CAPM® exams, we use 61% as the passing score on all of our exams.
Though we try to match the difficulty level of the real exams, our students tell us that our exams are slightly more difficult than the real ones. Based on the data that we've collected from our students in their last week before the real exam, those who scored 50-55% on their first attempt on our practice exams passed the real exam.

We continue to adjust our exams from time to time as we get more insights from the data that we gather.
Mastery Mode is a special exam that helps you master your weaknesses. Refer to Mastery Mode in PMP / CAPM Exam Simulator for details.
If you spot a problem - inaccurate information, typos, grammatical mistakes, layout problems, etc. - with any question, use the 'Send Feedback' button available on the exam page.

You do not need to type the content of the question. The system automatically tracks that information. All you need to do is to type the problem and hit the Send button.

Refer to the screenshots below.

No. Most of the content in BrainBOK is dynamically generated, and cannot be downloaded or printed. It is meant for online use only.
Any card that you bookmark, mark correct, or mark incorrect counts toward your overall progress. Any unmarked cards are considered not reviewed. The horizontal progress bar at the top of the Flashcards tab shows your overall progress in numbers and percentage.

The objective is to have all 2000 cards marked correct before your exam.
No, we do 'not' offer the flashcards in hard-copy or PDF format. Most of the content in BrainBOK is dynamically generated, and cannot be downloaded or printed. It is meant for online use only.
The cards that are starred (bookmarked) by most number of users are the top-bookmarked cards. Any time a user stars a card, it is counted as a +1 toward the rating of that card. Eventually as more and more users star the cards, the most-important, and best quality cards would rise to the top. We encourage you to make the good use of this feature.
When you bookmark (star) a card, or mark it as correct (thumbs up) or incorrect (thumbs down), it is considered 'marked' or reviewed. When the 'Unmarked only' option is enabled (which is the default), 'marked' cards are not shown.

This option is designed to allow you to review all the cards without having them repeat multiple times. So as you go through the cards, mark each card as correct or incorrect (or simply bookmark it) so that it doesn't repeat. This way the system would know that you have seen the card before and would not present it again. When you want to see all cards including the 'marked' ones, simply toggle OFF the 'Unmarked only' option.
If you spot a problem - inaccurate information, typos, grammatical mistakes, layout problems, etc. - with any flashcard, use the 'Send Feedback' button available at the bottom right corner of the flashcard.

You do not need to type the content of the card. The system automatically does that in the background. All you need to do is to type the problem and hit the Send button.

The key difference between the Quiz and the Exam module is that questions on the Exam are set in advance by our PMP®-certified experts, whereas the questions on the Quiz are generated on-the-fly by our quiz engine.

The unique questions on our Exam module are limited to the size of the question pool, whereas the unique questions on the Quiz are practically unlimited. Read the next section to learn more.
The number of unique questions on the quiz is practically unlimited. The questions in the quiz are generated randomly by the quiz engine. With 47 project management processes and their Inputs, Tools and Techniques and Outputs (ITTO)_count ITTO's combined with random ordering of the answer choices, and switching between right / wrong choice formats, the total number of permutations and combinations is huge. You may never see the exact same question (with the same answer choices in the same order) repeat during your practice if you go with the "All Knowledge Areas" option.
Yes. However, we recommend against using this option because it drastically reduces the effectiveness of the tool. When you take a quiz by a specific Knowledge Area, the quiz engine has a very limited set of data to work with. This in turn limits the number of unique questions that it can generate. You'll start to see the questions repeat very soon. Ultimately, it will lead to memorizing the answers, which will skew your scores and give you a false indication of your preparedness. We strongly recommend that you always use the default option "All Knowledge Areas" when taking the quiz.
Practically unlimited. The questions in the quiz are generated randomly by the system. With 47 project management processes, Inputs, Tools and Techniques and Outputs (ITTO)_count ITTOs, and random ordering of the answer choices, the total permutations and combinations for the quiz questions are practically unlimited. If you use the 'All Knowledge Areas' option, you may never ever see the exact same question (with the exact same answer choices in the exact same order) repeat during your practice.

Tip - Practice makes Perfect!
Some quizzes are only available with paid subscription. If you have a Basic membership, you can only access limited content in the system. Please consider upgrading to Premium membership to enjoy unlimited and unrestricted access to all the quiz features.
Well, that's our trade secret, our secret sauce :) We have built-in intelligence in the quiz to make the questions more challenging.

Tip: Try to review the ITTO Secrets (in the ITTO Explorer module) to know why a particular ITTO is an ITTO for a process. That will help you understand the ITTOs, and hopefully you won't need to memorize them!
The All-time and Current Session scores would be same initially until you click the 'Reset Session' button, which is available on the Quiz Performance Report.

Let us understand what Session means.

Session doesn't mean each round of quiz questions, which you attempt. Session is controlled by you, the user. The Current Session would continue until you go to the Score Report and click the 'Reset Session' button at the top of the report. Once you reset your score, your current session would expire and a new session would start. Your Current Session scores would be reset to 0, but your All-time score would remain intact. The system doesn't allow you to reset the All-time score.

Now let us consider an example to understand this better.

Let's say you start taking the Quiz on Jan 1. You take a few questions every day from Jan 1 - 15. Until Jan 15, your All-time score and the Current Session score would be the same. On Jan 16, you click on 'Reset Session'. That would end your previous session, start a new session and reset your Current Session score to 0. From that point onward, your All-time score and Current Session score would be different. Your new session (started on Jan 16) would remain valid until you click 'Reset Session' again.

The idea of 'Reset Session' button is to give more control to the users. The users decide how long their session is. Users can use this option to track their performance over an extended period of time. Your session could be 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month or even longer in duration. You can Reset the session whenever you want.
The same (or similar) questions may repeat if you take the quiz by Knowledge Area. Questions in the quiz are generated automatically from the ITTOs. If the Knowledge Area has relatively fewer processes, the chances of a question repeating would be much higher because the system would have fewer options to select from.

We DO NOT recommend taking the quiz by Knowledge Area at all.

The quiz by Knowledge Area feature was added due to popular demand from our students, but we believe that it reduces the effectiveness of our tool. If you take the quiz from All Knowledge Areas, the chances of the same question repeating are extremely slim for the reason explained above.
The Quiz module is fundamentally different from the Exam module in BrainBOK. The questions in the quiz are generated on-the-fly by our quiz engine using our secret sauce, which makes the questions realistic and challenging. The quiz questions are based on the Project Management Process ITTOs and Glossary terms only. On the other hand, questions on the Exam are preset by our experts according to the PMP / CAPM Exam Content Outline set forth by PMI.

System keeps track of and displays the quiz score right at the bottom of the quiz form after each question. Apart from that, you can track your performance using detailed Domain-wise (graphical) Reports option on the Quiz tab. The reports show the All-time performance as well as the performance for the Current Session.
The Quiz and the Exam modules are fundamentally different.

  • Quiz module is 100% automated with built-in intelligence and all the quiz questions are randomly generated by the Quiz engine (software). Whereas, the questions in the Exam module are developed by our subject matter experts (humans).
  • The Quiz module does not include real exam-type questions. The real exam-type questions are available on the Exam module.
  • With 47 processes and 618 ITTOs, the Quiz module can generate virtually unlimited number of unique questions. Whereas, the number of unique questions on the Exam module are limited (1000 for PMP and 800 for CAPM).
